Another Day, Another Pulled Punch
The RNC on "mercenary" Barack Obama:
It once again begs the question: if Bill Ayers' unrepentant communism and nostaglia for the terrorist carnage of his youth - essentially a desire to be a red, American bin Laden - isn't the point of criticizing The Chosen One for his knowingly close association with him - which the Republican nominee has already publicly declared - then why bother with the now-half Ayers hold at all? A question Governor Palin is allegedly asking behind the scenes, and if so, who can blame her?:
With his electoral prospects fading by the day, Senator John McCain has fallen out with his vice-presidential running mate about the direction of his White House campaign…
Mark Salter, McCain’s long-serving chief of staff, is understood to have told campaign insiders that he would prefer his boss, a former Vietnam prisoner of war, to suffer an “honourable defeat” rather than conduct a campaign that would be out of character – and likely to lose him the election.
Palin, 44, has led the character attacks on Obama in the belief that McCain may be throwing away the election and her chance of becoming vice-president. Her supporters think that if the Republican ticket loses on November 4, she should run for president in 2012…
A McCain official confirmed that there was dissension in the campaign. “There is always going to be a debate about the costs and benefits of any strategy,” he said.
“After November 4, the feelings of individuals will come to light. It is only natural and will be expected.”…
A spokesman for McCain denied he and Palin had fallen out over her aggressive attacks. “Vice-presidential candidates are typically the tip of the spear and further out in front than the candidate for president. This is pretty standard fare,” he said.
The truth nobody on our side wants to speak, but which I (among others) have been bellowing since Groundhog's Day, is that GOP defeat in November was clinched the instant that Benedict McCain somehow clinched the Republican nomination in what can only be described as dynasticism run amok. I have to think that Barracuda recognized this when her name began surfacing as a possible McCain running mate possibility, and when she landed the nod she viewed it as her opportunity to lay the ground work for a 2012 run of her own.
Which isn't to say that Sarah hasn't done her good faith best to try and drag Sailor's dead weight to the Oval Office. But you'd have to think that having fought the good fight when McCain refused to, in concert with her Thatcheresque debut on the national stage, will boost her to at least as good a 2012 platform as being veep to a fumes-sucking coda to what would be twelve years of GOP White House control. Most likely a lot better, since when the 2012 campaign kicks off two years and change from now, the Democrats will probably have absorbed a mid-term pasting of their own, President Hussein will own the two-years-recessed economy lock, stock, and barrel, and his floundering rule will throw the utter absence of executive experience, character, courage, and leadership we've been howlingly warning about from the rooftops into brutally stark relief beside her presumeably two-term governorship.
Imagine, if you will, a Sarah Palin-Bobby Jindal ticket going up against a by-then discredited, so-unpopular-even-the-Enemy-Media-can't-sell-them-anymore Rogaine Messiah. Reaganian diversity and sunny ruthlessness, proven executive experience, courageous leadership that knows what it wants to do and why, a pair that will not pull its punches and make every one of them count, and a team that will not make "bipartisanship" the theme of a partisan election campaign.
False Messiah can get away with lines like this one because he's facing an opponent that never had any core philosophical justification for his candidacy, and is now frantically trying to hurl anything he can get his hands on against the wall in the hope that something will stick. Four years from now such rhetoric may well itself be his own flailing political death throes. Barracuda is laying the foundation to make certain of it.
