Steny Hoyer - Read The Bill??!!

This is what I was trying to describe to Jim on Hard Starboard Radio and kept tripping over my tongue.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) said Tuesday that the health-care reform bill now pending in Congress would garner very few votes if lawmakers actually had to read the entire bill before voting on it.

“If every member pledged to not vote for it if they hadn’t read it in its entirety, I think we would have very few votes,” Hoyer told CNSNews.com at his regular weekly news conference.

He said this with a chuckle, like it was just the funniest thing in the world that Americans would expect members of Congress to do their jobs. They want to change the health care system, a HUGE chunk of the economy, without even knowing what they're voting on? And he thinks the notion of that kind of responsibility is funny? This is what we've put in charge of our country, people.

JASmius adds: If Hoyer didn't chuckle condescendingly at the naivete of voters actually expecting their elected representatives to read bills for themselves before voting on them, he wouldn't have risen to the post of House Majority Leader, methinks.

C'mon, Jen, the man signed off on Crazy Nancy calling the clear majority of the American people who don't want BarryCare "unAmerican" in print.  If we "shall know them by their works," I'd say Hoyer has made his choice beyond any possibility of surprise on our parts.  Indeed, the very fact of his taking the post of her top lieutenant pretty much sealed that deal.

What makes me wonder is whether there's a deeper layer of meaning to his comment.  Is Hoyer just mocking the idea of congresscritters knowning what they're voting on, or is he implying that the schism in the Donk ranks is such that a full knowledge of the contents of the bill would peel off enough Blue Dogs or neoBolsheviks to sink BarryCare for good?  Perhaps he and Nance have a vested interest in maintenance of their caucus's ignorance.
