Peeps, if Comedy f'ing Central is laughing at how far up Red Barry's ass the Obamedia has crawled, they haven't jumped the shark, they've soared over the icthysaur and the plesiosaur, um, standing on its, uh, shoulders.

If there were any doubts about whether New York Attorney-General Andrew Cuomo wants to be the next governor of New York, consider them assuaged:

State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo yesterday launched an investigation into pork-barrel grants given to ACORN by state lawmakers, as City Council Speaker Christine Quinn froze all city funding earmarked for the scandal-scared community-activism organization.

The actions by the Democratic officials followed release of a shocking undercover video that showed employees at a Brooklyn ACORN office giving illicit financial advice to activists posing as a pimp and prostitute who wanted to start a brothel. …

On Monday, the US Senate voted overwhelmingly to block federal funding to the community group, while Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes opened an investigation into the local office in response to a report in the Post.

A spokesman for Cuomo said the attorney general would seek to make sure pork-barrel grants directed to ACORN by state lawmakers were spent on tax-preparation and loan-counseling services, as intended.

This brings me back to the canny choice of sting gimmick on the part of O'Keefe and Giles. ACORN's rampant, serial voter fraud activities have been well known for years all across the country, but never made much of an impact with the public. But lurid videos of ACORN officials dispensing advice on how to dodge taxes and run the child sex trade surface, and within a matter of days the communizing group is under siege, despite the Obamedia cone of silence. It serves as a reminder of the old saying that a picture is worth a thousand words and a video a thousand pictures, and majorities of the public will only be aroused to mass outrage by what they see.

Which is a long-winded way of saying that this is the only reason why Cuomo and Quinn are taking these actions. Quinn will undoubtedly call off the dogs if and when this scandal blows over. But Cuomo has more of a conundrum, as Ensign Ed explains:

Democrats used ACORN for their GOTV efforts in 2008 and before, and presumably Cuomo would like to have that kind of effort for his primary campaign, but it doesn’t look like he’d need it to beat Paterson. He’ll need ACORN to win a general election against Rudy Giuliani, if the former mayor decides to run, though. How tough will Cuomo get if Rudy tosses his hat into the ring?

But, on the other hand, if Cuomo were to go soft on ACORN, wouldn't that make him look awfully weak and borderline corrupt himself when going up against the former New York City mayor who is emblematic for his proven record on law & order issues? The BigGovernment videos have done more than leave a mark, they've left an impact crater. ACORN is now synonymous with sleaze, just as it is synonymous with Barack Obama and the Democrat Party, and that WILL be part of the backdrop for the 2010 campaign. Given that the last Empire State A-G made his reputation and based his successful 2006 gubernatorial campaign on being a (demographically and politically selective) law & order crusader, doesn't that almost force Cuomo to legally pursue ACORN to the very gates of hell itself?

Frankly, in a state as "blue" as New York, he SHOULDN'T need ACORN to win next November. If he does it will indicate how big a GOP year 2010 will be - and that he's going to have to overcome that "red" wave all by himself.

"It's just a few bad apples" became "the far right is out to get us" which became "scandalmongering never fed a hungry child". Evidently deciding - for a few hours, anyway - that sometimes the best defense is not, after all, a good offense, the Head Nut has opted for duck & cover:

ACORN, calling the actions of some of its employees “indefensible,” has suspended advising new clients as part of its service programs and is setting up an independent review to see what happened.

ACORN chief executive Bertha Lewis said in a written statement that she was “ordering a halt to any new intakes into ACORN’s service programs until completion of an independent review.” …

Lewis continued: “We have all been deeply disturbed by what weve seen in some of these videos. I must say, on behalf of ACORN’s Board and our Advisory Council, that we will go to whatever lengths necessary to reestablish the public trust. For nearly forty years, ACORN has given voice to communities, and gotten results. Right now, our nearly 500,000 member are working their hearts out for quality, affordable healthcare for every American and to help stop the foreclosure crisis. We must get this process right, so the good work can go forward.”

{blink} Golly, that sure sounds contrite. Very...abruptly so. I thought the BigGovernment videos were "doctored" and "fraudulent"; now Bertha is "deeply disturbed" by them?

Frankly, if she really wanted to "re-establish the public trust," she'd disband ACORN and turn herself over to the authorities and save everybody a lot of time, resources, acrimony, and grief. Her organization is so submerged in the tarpits by now that it'd take years to scrub its image until you could find the original surface beneath the layers and layers of muck. Still, I suppose every prodigal journey has to start somewhere.

Which brings us to just exactly who will be running this "independent" review. Did I say "duck & cover"? Looks like I left off the suffix "-up":

In a press release, ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis says, that as “a result of the indefensible action of a handful of our employees,” the group will immediately stop accepting anyone into ACORN office for service programs, will conduct in-service training of staff, and begin an audit “to review all of the systems and processes called into question by the videos,” to be conducted by the group’s Independent Advisory Council.

The Council includes many prominent Democrats, including the man who helped President Obama Transition Team, John Podesta, President and CEO of the Center for American Progress; former Maryland Lieutenant-Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend; Andrew Stern, International President of the Service Employees International Union; and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros.

Or "a Soros hack, an SEIU thug, someone who pleaded [guilty] to lying to the FBI, and a Kennedy,” with perhaps "a few pimps and prostitutes for 'technical expertise.'” You'll know when the ACORN IAC is in session because of all the backhoes and bulldozers in the parking lot as they deliberate where to dig the huge hole in which to try and bury this rancid cesspool.

The interesting thing is that this is as "on the defensive" as Bertha's bunch is ever going to get. And if calling in the wolves to investigate the underage hen house doesn't make all this scrutiny go away overnight, you can count on the cycle of [ahem] offensive tactics to quickly resume.

Did I say "quickly"? How about "immediately"?:

O'Keefe and Giles are "liars," "framers," and Bertha's gonna sue 'em into the ground. Ran the whole gamut in a single interview. Man, she might as well tell her Soros hack, SEIU thug, Cisneros, and Kennedy to go on home, as it looks like they're going to have even less to do than they thought.

But she saved her best stuff for the biggest POS not named Olbermann on the biggest POS "news"channel on cable television:

In a time when the entire left is smearing the entire rest of the country as "racists" because the public has discovered too late that Barack Obama is the Borg King and are proving resistance to be somewhat less than futile, Bertha Lewis attaching the label "modern-day McCarthyism" to the effort to bring to justice "a nonprofit conspiring to cover up child sex trafficking" redefines the adjective "brazen".

But not in a good way. We are reminded once again of the difference between the brazenness of skillful deception and the brazenness of imperous arrogance. The former marked the Clintonoids, the latter the Obamunists. Bill Clinton was able to reinvent himself, survive his own health care debacle, and thrive for a full two terms. No matter how many scandals he committed, his boyish, "aw shucks" veneer and unparalleled acting ability always deflected the public outrage that would otherwise have brought him down, and even redirected it at his pursuers. Barack Obama and followers like Bertha Lewis thrust an in-your-face ugliness at anyone and everyone who crosses them that, as The One's plummeting poll numbers have illustrated, pretty much guarantees a loud, noisy, rancorous descent whose last remaining objective will be to cause as much collateral damage as possible.

There's an old pro wrestling tag line: "Love me, hate me, you'll never forget me, because I always deliver the goods." Far more people will "hate" ACORN and its Head Nut than "love" them as this video drip-drip-drip continues. That we'll never forget them is why congressional Donks are running for the tall grass and even their divine benefactor is having to pretend to condemn them, and why I think this is the endgame they'll ultimately undertake.

Speaking of more sting videos, "ACORN Exposed" next visited San Diego:

Aiding and abetting kiddie prostitution imports - check. No tax evasion advice in this one, but Miss Giles does get propositioned.

That does raise an interesting question: Just how far was Giles in particular willing to take her cover role in these operations? What if some ACORNies were even filthier than even she and O'Keefe imagined and actually RAN prostitution rings? And if not, suppose they had themselves pretended to do so in order to call the muckraking duo's bluff? At the very least, it does reveal, particularly given the, shall we say, non-Huggy-Bear-esqueness of Mr. O'Keefe's pimp costume, that the ACORNies who run these branch offices aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer.
