The Definition Of "Not A Threat"

Don't go away, it's time to play another rousing edition of Compare & Contrast!

In the red corner, Vice President Hairplugs:

Vice President Joe Biden earlier refused to confirm to CNN that the George W. Bush-era plan was being shelved.

But he did explain the logic of doing so, saying Iran — a key concern for the United States — was not a threat.

“I think we are fully capable and secure dealing with any present or future potential Iranian threat,” he told CNN’s Chris Lawrence in Baghdad, where he is on a brief trip.

“The whole purpose of this exercise we are undertaking is to diminish the prospect of the Iranians destabilizing that region in the world. I am less concerned — much less concerned - about the Iranian potential. They have no potential at this moment, they have no capacity to launch a missile at the United States of America,” he said.
But they do have the capacity to launch missiles at our allies, including in Europe, and most especially including the two nations (Poland and the Czech Republic) who put their figurative ballsacks in the snap-drawer to accept an anti-Iranian MRBM battery and radar, respectively.  And whatever capabilities the mullahs don't have "at this moment," is it not, um, prudent to preemptively negate such capabilities NOW before Tehran can develop them?  That was, in fact, the Bush Administration's "strategery."

And in the blue corner, "shameless Iranian stooge" Mohamed El Baradei:

Experts at the world’s top atomic watchdog are in agreement that Tehran has the ability to make a nuclear bomb and is on the way to developing a missile system able to carry an atomic warhead, according to a secret report seen by the Associated Press…

The document says Iran has “sufficient information” to build a bomb. It says Iran is likely to “overcome problems” on developing a delivery system.
I'm assuming this is what El Baradei tried to bury last week.

Six years ago I argued that Dubya should keep the tanks rolling right into Iran and finish this war one in fell swoop.  Libs on the old CompuServe Republican Forum called the very suggestion "madness".  Today, notes AP:

Sunni states in the Gulf are now scrambling to install their own missile systems and why, as ABC tersely notes, “There is real fear and some expectation here of a military confrontation.”
Wars aren't always inevitable; war with Iran always has been.  If a war is inevitable, it is imperative to fight that war on your terms and timetable, not your enemy's.  George W. Bush failed to do so, and now his successor all but has the United States on the mullahgarchy's side.

If that isn't "madness," then insanity doesn't exist.
