When Hell Freezes Over
Yeah, this is gonna happen:
The top House Republican yesterday called on Representative Charles Rangel to step down as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee until an ethics investigation is complete.
"Show the American people that having their confidence in your leadership means more to you than having the opportunity to wield power," House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) wrote in a letter to Rangel.
Simply put, it doesn't. Democrats are all about power...any way they can get it, honest or otherwise. The ends justify the means. Doesn't matter how they attain and keep it, as long as they do. Rangel is devoid of character and conscience...I'd be willing to bet that in his mind, the only thing he did wrong was get caught. If he voluntarily steps down, I'll eat my hat and yours, too.
JASmius adds: Rangel is at least perceiving some noticeable degree of heat on his ass, judging from his attempt to change the subject in a Van Jones kinda way:
Representative Charles Rangel, D-NY, went on the record this week saying that in his opinion "bias" and "prejudice" are fueling opposition to health care reform, according to a report by CBS News.
The volatile remarks came as the beleaguered lawmaker spoke at a health-care forum in Washington Heights, a community in his district.
Rangel charged that when critics complain that Obama is "trying to interfere" with their lives by advocating health-care reform, "then you know there's just a misunderstanding, a bias, a prejudice, an emotional feeling."
Rangel, who is presenting fighting ethical charges in the House that he failed to report significant income, went on to say: "Some Americans have not gotten over the fact that Obama is President of the United States. They go to sleep wondering, 'how did this happen?'"
The chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee added, "We're going to have to move forward notwithstanding that."
According to a report in the New York Post, at that same forum, Rangel compared the fight for health-care reform to the fight for civil rights.
"Why do we have to wait for the right to vote? Why can't we get what God has given us? That is the right to live as human beings and not negotiate with white southerners and not count the votes. Just do the right thing," he said.
Gee, I always thought that "doubling down" was something you did on a winning hand....
Not that anything's going to happen to Rangel any time soon. Crazy Nancy Pelosi is the only individual whose opinion he has to worry about, and that old hag has already backed him to the hilt and then some. But his corrupt, racist, autocratic antics aren't doing anything to lug BarryCare off life support or rebuild the Democrat "brand" that has been laid waste over the summer by the man whose presidency he says WE can't get over.
A year and change from now, it'll be filthbags like Charlie Rangel mumbling asking themselves "How did this happen?" And they'll never stop doing so because they'll never accept the true answer.
UPDATE: This, of course, is the backup plan in case the subject-changing gambit fails.
Sometimes we on the Right wonder if there even is a threshold beyond which Democrat corruption can't go without bringing down Obamedia criticism. Well, in Charlie Rangel's case, it appears that there is, and that he's crossed it:
For politicians with major bad news to release or to make public, there’s no time like the dead of August to do it. The thinking goes that the public won’t remember a thing come September. We hope Representative Charles B. Rangel (D-NY) will have no such luck. His belated revelation of previously unreported income, property and bank accounts demands that he step aside as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. …
Much is expected of elected officials. Much more is expected and demanded of those entrusted with chairmanships and the power that comes with them, especially when it involves the nation’s purse strings. From all that we’ve seen thus far, Mr. Rangel has violated that trust continually and seemingly without care.
Oh, don't get carried away, one WaPo op-ed isn't going to bring the whole Obamedia roof down on the man. The cometragic irony is that even if Crazy Nancy were to pull the plug on Rangel, the next three Donks in line are as big or even bigger partisan reprobates as he is:
…If Pelosi were to supplant Rangel, she’d face the prospect of choosing from a unappetizing menu of potential replacements at the Ways and Means helm.
“There are not a lot of good choices for her on that committee,” said a leadership aide.
The next Democrat in line would be Pete Stark, an outspoken 77-year-old liberal with a firebrand reputation and a penchant for intemperate cracks – like calling Blue Dog Democrats “brain dead.”
Next up: Michigan Representative Sander Levin, also 77, and Washington Representative Jim McDermott, 72, who are not considered favored choices of Pelosi based on their ages and temperament.
In other words, even if Pelosi slipped in her bathroom, hit her head on the sink, and suddenly developed a genuine urge for ethics reform, her caucus is so full of mouthy old Bolshevik bastards that she'd have to jettison the whole seniority system entirely to find somebody to take the Ways & Means gavel that (1) didn't figuratively stink with corruption like a cadaver and (2) didn't literally resemble one. And, of course, she was ready for a rubber room a looooong time ago.
I suggest that the NRCC frame that WaPo editorial as part of the "poster boy-ation" of Charlie Rangel as the symbol of the Democrat Culture of Corruption. Because retaking the House for the GOP is the only way you're gonna get rid of him.
