Money, Power, & Captain Oinks
We're always talking about how Dems are only out for themselves...money and power, power and money. It really seems odd to me that they can't seem to see the obvious. When taxes are lowered, receipts to the government increase. Every time. Yet...they continue to want to raise taxes, even though that always depresses the economy and throws people out of work, thereby decreasing receipts to the government. I can only conclude that power is even more important to them than money. They get absolutely drunk on the idea of wielding power and control over the American people, right down to the smallest minutiae they can get away with. Why else would they insist on economic policies which will depress the economy? It's because they want more people dependent on the government. Liberals create crises in order to try to convince people that they are the only ones who can save America from said made-up crises. What is frustrating is that so many people buy their snake oil, after having seen the same routine over and over. It's amazing.
Now Obama is declaring the swine flu a national emergency. Gimme a break. A more pressing national emergency is his panty-waist limp-wristed foreign policy. But I digress.
Democrats only want what's best for us to the degree that it makes us want to cede more power to them. Never forget that.
JASmius adds: If you're a fan of gallows humor, consider that by making such a chest-beating spectacle of himself on H1N1, Red Barry runs the risk of FUBARing this "national emergency" so bad it makes Bush's handling of Katrina look like a well-oiled machine:
More worrisome, however, is the story in the New York Times regarding the government's consistent overestimation of the supplies ofH1N1 vaccines.
As the Times describes the situation, "The government’s accomplishments, and its credibility, are being undermined by overly rosy projections that did not take account of the vagaries of vaccine production, making it look as if the vaccine effort is failing." According to the article, the government was aware in September that the vaccine amounts they were promising would not be available, yet it is only recently, in the face of obvious shortages and people being turned away from clinics, that they have lowered their estimates from forty million available doses to twenty-eight million. This was only one of a number of reduced estimates dating back to late July, when the government was predicting having one hundred sixty million available doses by this time. The problem here is not just the vaccine shortfall, although we clearly need more vaccine supply, and soon, to deal with the H1N1flu strain. The problem is that government credibility is one of the most valuable and necessary commodities in a crisis; loss of that credibility could lead to greater problems down the road.We have already seen some grumbling, on both right and left, about taking the vaccine. Anything that gives the doubters reason to question the government's pronouncements and recommendations in this area could be extremely damaging if the situation worsens. The Obamaadministration needs to be extremely careful in the months ahead about making sure their predictions remain in line with reality.
