Domestic Policy: January 2009 Archives

Dear Friend:

I urge you to immediately sign our PETITION TO BARACK OBAMA.

Please, it's vital you respond today -- and here's why.

From tax increases to new regulations on job providers, there are many "changes" Barack Obama hopes to impose early in his Presidency.  But at the very top of his list are measures to vastly increase the money and forced-dues power of the hard left Big Labor Bosses.

Why?  Because Obama knows that pushing his far left agenda will be far easier with the money and manpower of Big Labor on his side.  And because, quite frankly, as he himself said in his political memoir, The Audacity of Hope,

"I owe those unions... When their leaders call, I do my best to call them back right away.  I don't mind feeling obligated."

Well, Barack Obama may indeed owe the Big Labor Bosses.  But his election did not give him a "mandate" to dramatically expand their forced unionism power...

... and your PETITION sends that message loud and clear to our new President!

Specifically, your PETITION reminds Barack Obama that he was not in any way elected to push through policies that will:

1)  DENY workers the right to a secret ballot when voting on whether or not they want to be part of a union (this is at top of the agenda for Big Labor, because it would enable union organizers to forcibly unionize millions more workers into dues-paying union ranks);

2)  BAN companies in effect from running their companies during a strike -- a right they have held for roughly 70 years;

3)  ATTACK all 22 state Right to Work laws, which make union membership and union dues voluntary;

4)  INSTALL hundreds of Big Labor cronies on the federal courts, throughout the Department of Labor, the National Labor Relations Board, and other federal agencies;

5)  EXPAND the definition of "employee" and narrow the definition of management, thereby placing more employees under union boss control; and

6)  FORCE state and local governments under the monopoly control of union bosses as the monopoly bargaining agents for police, firefighters, and other first responders.

Each of these steps will dramatically increase the political influence, money, and power of the far left Big Labor Bosses.

Each will enhance Big Labor's ability to help President Barack Obama and the anti-free enterprise majority in Congress impose a crippling forced unionism agenda on America.

Each will ensure Big Labor's ability to help re-elect even more union stooge politicians in the future...

... and each of these draconian forced unionism power grabs is on the table right here and now in Washington!

That's why we haven't a moment to lose.

And why I need your signed PETITION TO BARACK OBAMA without delay.  Please, we plan on swamping Barack Obama in a sea of PETITIONS just as he settles into the Oval Office.  Sign the petition to Barack Obama now by clicking here.

Because it is vital that he understands HE HAS NO MANDATE to give his Big Labor patrons new powers to enslave millions of additional workers in unions and steal their income through confiscatory dues...

... and your PETITION will do just that!

But time is short.  And we need to strike hard and fast.

So please, act now.  Today.

Together, we will prevent Barack Obama from handing over the keys to American workplaces to thffe Big Labor Kingpins.

And make no mistake:  We fail at our nation's peril!

I hope you agree.  And that you'll join us in this fight today.

My name is Mark Mix.  I am President of the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation (NRTWLDF).

And no one has a better track record on taking on the Big Labor Bosses and their agenda -- and winning -- than the Foundation's legal team.

For example, it was the National Right to Work Foundation that won a ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of CWA Union v. Beck, forbidding union bosses from spending workers' forced dues on politics and lobbying.

Of course, the Big Labor Bosses have all but ignored that ruling.

And we here at the National Right To Work Legal Defense Foundation continue to slam them with lawsuits to remind them that the Beck decision is all too real -- and that they must follow the law!

But facts are facts.

And the union bosses' vision for "change" in Washington is going to make our job harder than ever before.  But we have been through tough times before and prevailed.

We can and will prevail again in the coming age of Obama.

And we will do so with our team of tough, brilliant, and freedom-loving attorneys who will be working from day one to:

1)  Keep Barack Obama from advancing the power and reach of the corrupt labor union kingpins -- fighting his illegal forced unionism policies in the courts.

2)  Prosecute union activists who illegally seize and spend forced-dues money to lobby Congress and state legislatures for bigger government, higher taxes, or more forced unionism.

3)  Protect popular state Right to Work laws from attempts to limit or abolish the legal rights that workers in 22 states enjoy under those laws.  Union Bosses are mounting end runs around these laws and may now mount a full frontal assault.

4)  Expose Big Labor's misdeeds.  Every time Foundation attorneys file charges against union bosses for breaking the law, misappropriating union dues, or instigating violence against independent workers, the Foundation hammers the union bosses in the press for their ugly abuses.

This program could not be more needed as we enter the radical Obama era.  And none of our planned precedent-setting legal battles for 2009 will be more crucial than our Supreme Court legal program.

For example, not long ago, Foundation attorneys scored another major victory at the United States Supreme Court in the case of Davenport v. Washington Education Association (WEA)

This pivotal case appealed a Washington State Supreme Court ruling granting union bosses the right to spend on politics the confiscated dues of nonmembers without obtaining their consent.

The lower court's decision even threatened Right to Work laws banning forced union dues in all 22 states where they now apply.

And, if it had been upheld, it would have been a disaster for hard-working Americans everywhere -- and a major, historic boost for the union bosses.

But we fought itAnd we won

And this is just one example of why the Foundation's Supreme Court litigation program is crucial.  But, regardless of which way the Foundation's Supreme Court cases go (including one pending right now)...

... winning in the court of public opinion is going to be just as important as winning in a court of law

It's also vital that we keep the heat on politicians to ensure they do not trample the constitutional rights of America's workforce.

And with the recent election of the most extreme President and Congress this nation has seen in a generation...

... our mission has never been more needed!

But -- while we are experts at taking on the Big Labor Bosses and their forced unionism, leftist agenda in both the court of law and the court of public opinion -- we cannot succeed on our own.

We urgently need both the grassroots AND financial support of like-minded, freedom-loving Americans like you.

Which is why, in addition to your signed PETITION TO BARACK OBAMA...

... I also hope you will make a generous and urgently needed donation of $20, $25, $35, $50, $75, $100, or more to the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation once you have signed your petition here.

Your PETITION will serve as our official "welcome" to Barack Obama and official notification that, while the national news media may cover for him whenever they can...

... when it comes to his appeasing the leftist Big Labor Bosses and their pathological lust for power,

... we here at the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation will be fighting him every step of the way!

But to ensure that our "welcome" (and warning) is a big and continuous one, we want to distribute as many as 10 million additional Petitions over Obama's first several months in office...

... which is why we also need your tax-deductible donation of $20, $25, $35, $50, $75, $100, or more.

Your much-needed generous gift will help us fund the substantial amount this grassroots Petition campaign may require when all is said and done.

Your special tax-deductible gift will also help our ongoing operating and legal costs which are -- believe me -- significant.

The bottom line is, it costs a lot of money to keep attorneys available to help workers fight back, carry out legal research, hire security to guard workers who are threatened, conduct depositions, and pay for court costs.

But that's what is needed to mount strong cases and see them through to victory.

To raise these funds, we rely entirely on voluntary donations from patriots like you.

And believe me, we have a long history of using these resources for maximum benefit.

I hope you understand -- and that you will respond without delay.

So again, please, sign the PETITION TO BARACK OBAMA by clicking here.

Then please make a most generous and much-needed donation of $20, $25, $35, $50, $75, $100, or more to the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation.

Since your donation is fully tax deductible, I am hopeful you may even consider making a larger donation of $250, $500, $1000, or more.

But please, try to give at least $20 along with your signed PETITION TO BARACK OBAMA.

The National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation is fighting to give rank-and-file workers a choice.

And nothing would cripple Big Labor's agenda faster than ending forced union dues for politics.

But with Barack Obama and the most pro-forced-unionisn Congress in at least a generation now in charge in Washington, this mission has never been more difficult -- or more urgent.

I hope you agree.  And that I hear back from you without delay.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Mark Mix Signature
Mark Mix
President

P.S. Our liberty and our entire economic system will never be more at risk than in the weeks and months ahead.  "Change" is indeed coming.

And our mission will be to ensure that this "change" does not include giving the Big Labor Bosses sweeping new power to force workers into unions and confiscate their wages.  So please, act now.  Today.

Your signed PETITION TO BARACK OBAMA and tax-deductible gift of $20, $25, $35, $50, $75, $100, or more will help us place pressure on the new Obama White House and keep it there day in and day out in the critical weeks and months ahead in 2009.

P.P.S.  No other nationwide organization is better poised in the courts to slow or stop Big Labor and Barack Obama's plans to turn America toward the far left than the Foundation.  But there's no time to spare.  So please -- respond today!

Forget about Barack Obama's income tax-challenged Treasury Secretary or the conflict of interest controversy at the State Department. The most outrageous Obama appointee just might be Cass Sunstein, a Harvard Law School professor who's flying under everyone's radar and into a job that hardly anyone has ever heard of.

Cass Sunstein is slated to run the White House's Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. He's going to be America's chief "regulatory czar." And shocking new research from the Center for Consumer Freedom shows that he's a dedicated animal-rights zealot.

The 8 Biggest Celebrity Financial Mistakes

Hold on to your sirloin.

The anti-meat nuts at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and the anti-hunting lobbyists at the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) used to think that putting Dennis Kucinich in the White House would be their best hope of wielding real power in Washington . But even they didn't see Cass Sunstein coming. Sunstein has the legal mind of Chief Justice John Roberts and the animal-rights agenda of PETA president Ingrid Newkirk.

We're not talking about animal welfare---the idea of making sure we don't cause animals unnecessary suffering when we use them for food, clothing, entertainment, or lifesaving medical research. Sunstein believes in animal rights---the notion that people shouldn't "own" or "use" animals at all, for any purpose, no matter what the stakes are for mankind.

Cancer research? Not if lab rats are used against their will.

Hunting? Absolutely forbidden, especially if it's for sport.

Leather jackets? The cows need their skin more that you do.

Seeing-eye dogs? They're nothing more than slaves.

And that T-bone steak? Fuhgeddaboudit! If animals have any "rights" at all, the right to not be your dinner is at the top of the list.

All of this makes perfect sense to Cass Sunstein, who organized the "Chicago Project on Animal Treatment Principles" at the University of Chicago. He will soon have the political authority to push for a radical overhaul of the way the federal government regulates everything Americans do with animals.

How radical? Sunstein supports making sport hunting illegal, and completely phasing out the consumption of meat. And if that's not nutty enough, he's actually in favor of giving animals the legal right to sue people.

Think we're joking? Think again. Here's what Sunstein wrote in his 2004 book, Animal Rights: Current Debates and New Directions:

"[A]nimals should be permitted to bring suit, with human beings as their representatives ... Any animals that are entitled to bring suit would be represented by (human) counsel, who would owe guardian like obligations and make decisions, subject to those obligations, on their clients' behalf."

Conservative commentators have been openly fretting that Barack Obama may try to turn welfare entitlements and single-payer healthcare into a new Bill of Rights. But Cass Sunstein threatens to expand the whole concept of "rights" to include the rest of the animal kingdom.

That fish wriggling at the end of your hook could soon be a federal offense (if the fish doesn't file a lawsuit first). Don't say we didn't warn you.

Now that the politicians are back in Washington, they are ready to get back to work taking more taxpayer dollars and spending the money on bailouts, government health care and special interest pork. President-elect Barack Obama is in town and has been meeting with leading liberals on Capitol Hill to plan their agenda for 2009. The only thing that can stop this far left agenda is an uprising of popular opposition from the American people.

To that end, please take a minute to help us deliver a message to Congress about health care and taxes. One of the first proposals that the liberals are pushing is a serious step toward government-run health care. They are trying to do this through a massive expansion of the SCHIP program, which would increase taxes on smokers to pay for government-run health care.  Liberals in Congress are preparing for action on this bill now so that it is ready for Barack Obama to sign as soon as he gets into office.  Please help us stop this from happening by TAKING ACTION NOW!

Whether you are a smoker or not, this proposed expansion of SCHIP is a threat to our fundamental liberties as it moves people from the private health care market to being more and more dependent on the government.  Effectively, this is nothing more than a backdoor to Canadian-style socialized medicine.  And because cigarette taxes are historically unreliable sources of revenue that never bring in the money that politicians promise, you can bet that once this latest proposed tax hike fails to adequately fund the massive expansion of SCHIP taxpayers will wind up getting stuck with the bill!

In order to make our health care system better, we need more competition and medical malpractice reform, not higher taxes and more government interference in markets.

This year is going to be filled with attempts by liberals to bust the budget, raise taxes on all Americans and increase our dependency on the federal government. President-elect Obama’s grassroots team is geared up to lobby Congress on his behalf for these liberal policies, and freedom-loving citizens are the only ones who can stop them.

HELP US SEND A MESSAGE now that we will not sit idly by while our money is confiscated and wasted by politicians and bureaucrats in Washington. Let’s make a statement that we will resist the move toward socialism, which starts with the battle against expanding SCHIP and leading us down the road to government-run health care.

Sincerely,
Dick Armey
Chairman

JASmius adds: Actually, nobody can stop them.  The 2008 election guaranteed that.  For the next two years at minimum, "freedom-loving citizens" are defenseless against the imminent Marxist onslaught.

There was the "progressive" surge in the 1900s, the New Deal in the 1930s, the Great Society in the 1960s.  Red Barry's "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act" is simply the renewal of that thirty-year cycle that the Gingrich "Revolution" managed to forestall for a decade and a half.  It's a bullet we won't be able to duck twice.

By all means, let's not sit idly by.  Just know that the cost of making Mr. Armey's statement may well be political imprisonment.

Boy, are we on it. Neil Boortz has an excellent rundown of Obama's "economic stimulus" plan. It's not a pretty picture, but one those of us who bother to become informed saw a long time ago. I'm not normally a drama queen, but I'm starting to lose sleep over this stuff. The theft of Norm Coleman's seat started my insomnia, but this kind of crap from Obama is really putting me over the edge. Here's the bottom line:

Do you now see how much this man loves government? PEBO said, "At this particular moment, only government can provide the short-term boost necessary to lift us from a recession this deep and severe." That's right. Only government. Not your personal self reliance or perseverance. Not your commitment to your community. Not your employer's paycheck or benefits. Not more money in your pocket. No more economic activity from the private sector. Only government.

Government. The liberal/socialist's answer to all problems. I'm not sure why Boortz calls Obama "PEBO," but I'm guessing it's not a pet name. Will we be able to stop the socialist train before it's too late? Will the Oprah and The View crowd wise up? Can the Obama idolizers be deprogrammed before we lose our liberty? Only time will tell.

JASmius adds: The answer to that question, BTW, is no.  Tune in to Hard Starboard Radio at 6PM Eastern today to find out a big reason why.

Tolerance and open-mindedness in the dawning Age of Obama (via Newsmax Insider):

Princeton University physicist Dr. Will Happer, who says he was fired by Vice President Al Gore for failing to adhere to Gore’s views on global warming, has now declared that man-made warming fears are “mistaken.”

Happer, who served as the director of Energy Research at the Department of Energy from 1990 to 1993, said, “I had the privilege of being fired by Al Gore, since I refused to go along with his alarmism. I did not need the job that badly.”

He said in 1993, “I was told that science was not going to intrude on policy."

Now Happer has asked to join the more than six hundred fifty international scientists who have spoken out against man-made global warming fears and are cited in the 2008 U.S. Senate Minority Report from Environmental and Public Works Committee ranking member James Inhofe, R-OK

“I am convinced that the current alarm over carbon dioxide is mistaken,” Happer told the committee on December 22.

President-elect Barack Obama’s choice as his top science adviser, Harvard University professor John Holdren, is a staunch believer in the dangers of man-made global warming and advised Gore on his [crock]umentary An Inconvenient Truth.

Dr. Happer has published over two hundred scientific papers, and is a fellow of the American Physical Society, The American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the National Academy of Sciences.

Senator Inhofe said that the statements of prominent scientists like Happer who are willing to publicly dissent from climate fears strike a blow to the United Nations, Gore, and the media’s claims about global warming.

“The endless claims of a 'consensus' about man-made global warming grow less and less credible every day," Inhofe said.

Happer declared, “I have spent a long research career studying physics that is closely related to the greenhouse effect — for example, absorption and emission of visible and infrared radiation, and fluid flow. Fears about man-made global warming are unwarranted and are not based on good science. Earth's climate is changing now, as it always has. There is no evidence that the changes differ in any qualitative way from those of the past . . .

“Computer models used to generate frightening scenarios from increasing levels of carbon dioxide have scant credibility.”

And yet the global warming Inquisition has seized total power.  Will true scientists like Dr. Happer be the Galileos of the twenty-first century?  How far down into government-enforced poverty, pestilence, repression, and primitivism will the American public allow themselves to be bulldozed before an economic AND ecological Renaissance finally pokes its way through the pagan bureaucratic murk?
